  • Auchterader defeat defending champions in the Bell Trophy

Monday 30 May

In a thrilling contest, Auchterarder ousted Muthil, the defending champions of the Bell Trophy, by a margin of 3½ to 1½, though the scoreline does not reflect the closeness of the tie, with four of the five games going to the last green.

In Game 1, the only one-sided contest of the night, D D Smith was round in four under par for the holes played for a 6&5 win. In Game 2, David Russell bounced back from a 2nd Round defeat, to win at the first extra hole. Billy Murray in Game 3, played probably the shot of the day on the last, from a greenside bunker above the pin but failed to capitalise, as his opponent holed from fifteen feet whilst he missed from five feet for a 1 hole defeat. Vic Heap in Game 4, the surprise package of this side, came from dormie two down to grab a vital half at the last. In Game 5, Keith Allan came from one down with two to play, to win the final two holes for a thrilling victory.

All in all, a great team performance and Auchterarder deservedly take their place in the last eight of the competition.

  • Winning start for Auchterarder in the Bell Trophy

Saturday 16 April

Auchterarder achieved a comfortable win in the 2nd Round by the margin of four to one, with wins for D D Smith, Billy Murray, Vic Heap and  Keith Allan. Somewhat surprisingly, the only defeat on the day went to in-form David Russell who will no doubt be looking to make ammends when the team take on Muthil in the 3rd Round for a place in the last eight, on Monday 30 May.
