Despite winning the County's premier scratch matchplay foursomes event, the Coronation Trophy, last year, Auchterarder fell at the first hurdle, against a very strong Alyth side containing no less than three County players. In atrocious conditions the top match of Phil Scott and Chris Nicol lost at the first hole of a sudden death play-off, after D D Smith and Graham Lowson had given Auchterarder the lead with a 3&2 victory, with Alyth making the match all-square after defeat for Brian Heggie and David Croll at the last.
