Golf Course Update - in order to keep members fully updated of developments on the golf course, we will be distributing a course update following every Committee Meeting.

Course Update - SEPTEMBER 2021

  • Course in general has been playing very well over recent months with lots of favourable comments from visiting groups and members. The early hollow-coring and sanding of greens in July in the quieter period has again proved to be a very worthwhile exercise. Greens have recovered very well and have been putting extremely good over recent weeks. They are starting to become more bent grass dominated in drier areas and are responding to treatments and wear much better.

  • Heights of cut will slowly be increased over next few weeks as growth slows down and temperatures reduce.

  • Our irrigation system has been a huge asset this season with just over 1.5 million litres of borehole water used so far on all greens, tees and approaches. This has enabled plant health to be much stronger and helped us maintain a more consistent grass cover on most areas.

  • We will be doing some autumn solid spiking and verti-cutting to all greens this month followed by top dressing to relieve compaction and improve water percolation going into winter months. Due to the high volume of golf rounds over the last 2 months this is essential to help greens recover from excess wear and constant cutting.

  • Fertiliser will also be added to all fine turf areas to improve growth and grass density and aid disease recovery.

  • We will also be hollow coring and scarifying all tees and approaches in forthcoming weeks, hopefully we will again get some volunteers from membership which was a great help when doing greens and greatly appreciated.

  • With staffing levels remaining low (2 full time short) all season, most of our time has been allocated to keeping playing areas cut regularly and course set up on a daily basis.

  • We have recently added some sand to very low greenside bunkers on some holes and this will continue as time permits over next few weeks.

  • Fairways will be divoted again by our junior helpers next week, which will improve playing conditions and appearance. Some fairways will also be sprayed with a selective weed killer and fertiliser to remove weeds and improve growth.

  • The Winter Works schedule will be released shortly subject to some final discussions.
