Match 1: 20/04/26 AGC Seniors v AGC Ladies
Just a quick update with regards to our first match of the season played in decent weather.
Although the games were close, the match result was a reverse of the last year's result with the Ladies winning 4 games to 2.
Thanks go to Lesley & Steven for their organisation that ensured the first game ran very smoothly.
Thanks also go to our match sponsor, Stuart Gunn who kindly donated prizes for nearest the hole at the 8th (won by Brian Johnston). Also a nearest the 13th hole in 2 (won by the mighty atom Steve Stewart).
We also had a couple of extra prizes donated again by Stuart Gunn; a lovely bottle of 1960 Special Edition Belfry Gin, won by Denise Shankland, a £25 voucher for Gavin’s Pro Shop, won by Sheila West.
Well done to the ladies who were up to the challenge on the day and thanks to all the gents who took part to make it a really enjoyable day.
Match 2: 04/05/26 Dunfermline Seniors v AGC Seniors
On a sunny Monday afternoon we travelled to Dunfermline for our first away outing of the season against Dunfermline Golf Club. Dunfermline Golf Club was formed in 1887 in Halbeath. The club moved to Torrie in 1929 before settling at Pitfirrane in 1953.
Pitfirrane House was the seat of the Halkett family and remained in the family from the 15th century until 1951. The building became their club-house in 1953 and the surrounding parkland is now their golf course.
The course was in excellent condition with the greens being somewhat slower than ours, with tree lined fairways, some tight dog-legs and long par 3’s all protected with finely sanded bunkers.
After introductions, a bacon roll and coffee, we set off playing the 4-ball better ball format. Competition was tight and most matches lasted to the final couple of holes. A stiff breeze kept us cool although it also made some of the holes a bit more challenging. On completion we were provided with a lovely 2-course meal in the upstairs dining room which still has original wooden panels from the 15th century.
Unfortunately the slower greens were our undoing and we lost the match 4-2 but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and the hospitality provided by the Dunfermline team.

Match 3: 14/05/26 Downfield Seniors v AGC Seniors
On our inaugural match with Downfield , we travelled to Dundee with anticipation of how we would cope with the longer championship course. Inclement weather, including hailstones, made challenging early conditions but when the sun came out, the team warmed to the speed of the greens and provided our hosts with a stiff test. Two matches were lost on the 18th, one was tied, but four of our pairs came out on top to give a four and a half to three and a half score to Auchterarder. Thanks to Downfield for the invite and hospitality on the day and we look forward to hosting the return fixture in August.

Match 4: 01/06/26 AGC Seniors v Ladybank Seniors
Weather went from rainy showers to bright sunshine but all in all we were very lucky. The teams were made up of 2 x teams of 16 players playing 4BBB. The match result went in favour of Auchterarder by 6.5 pts to 1.5 pts.
A big thank you to all players from both sides who played the games in great spirit. We now look forward to the return match at Ladybank GC in early August.

Match 5: 09/06/26 Balbirnie Park Seniors v AGC Seniors
The match was played in glorious sunshine and with decent temperatures. The teams were made up of 2 x teams of 12 players playing 4BBB. The match result went in favour of Auchterarder by 3.5 pts to 2.5 pts with many matches going down to the 18th to be decided.
A big thank you to all players from both sides who played the games in great spirit. We now look forward to the return match at Auchterarder GC in late August.
Thanks to Archie who was Balbirnie's Captain for the day for his warm welcome and for organising everything to ensure we all had a great day. As always many thanks for the great service from the teams from Balbirnie in the Pro Shop, Bar, Catering Staff and the Greens team who have produced a course in great condition.
Match 6: 29/06/26 AGC Seniors v Dunfermline Seniors
On Monday 29th June we welcomed the Dunfermline seniors to our club.Team pairings were introduced followed by a morning roll & coffee, introductions and the days order of play. 12 players from each team played a 4-ball better ball format, and there were also spot prizes for nearest the pin, longest drive and two vouchers for the pro-shop.
The weather was mild and sunny, however there was a stiff breeze to challenge us during the early stages of the match.
The course was in excellent conditions and the home team seemed to master the greens better than our visitors resulting in a 5-1 win for Auchterarder.
A well-earned meal was enjoyed by all players and thanks were given by the Dunfermline Captain who announced the final score and complimented us on our hospitality, the condition of the course and the quality of the meal.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Paul Kirkwood (hole 4) Stuart Gunn (hole14) and G McMullen (hole 7 in 2).
Longest drive was won by S Gilfillan and the two pro-shop vouchers were won by John McAuley and G McKenzie.
Match 7: 20/07/26 AGC Seniors v Aberdour Seniors
On Monday 20th July we welcomed the Aberdour Mens Seniors team to our club for a friendly match, the format being 4-ball better ball.
After introductions and a morning roll & coffee the match got under way in glorious weather. As always, the course was in excellent condition which is a credit to the green keepers considering the long dry spell of weather we have been having.
The first two matches went to the wire with Auchterarder managing to win both on the 18th green. Match 3 was a bit less stressful for us as we managed to win 5&4.The next two matches went to Aberdour 3&2 and 6&4, which put us 3-2 up with one match left to come in. Fortunately (or skillfully) we won the final match 4&3 to give us a 4-2 overall win.
After the post match meal, which was thoroughly enjoyed by both teams, the visiting captain gave thanks to AGC for putting on an excellent day's golf, whilst complimenting the quality of the course, the catering and our generous hospitality. He then announced the match result and awarded the spot prizes as follows:

Match 8: 30/07/26 Craigtoun Seniors v AGC Seniors
AGC Seniors travelled to Craigtoun ( formally Duke's course), now part of the St Andrew's Links Trust for the inaugural seniors friendly fixture between the clubs to find the course in excellent condition on a sunny day but with a strong 3 to 4 club wind blowing, playing from the blue tees (1000 yds longer than our yellow tee track) and over 130 bunkers to navigate. Many of the bunkers were visited, and over 200yd second shots into the wind on par 4's and 40 ft putts were frequent, but the team all enjoyed the experience on the course and the excellent catering and hospitality from our hosts off the course, and both teams look forward to the return fixture in September at AGC.
We played this match in handicap order as is custom at Craigtoun; 4 ball better ball match play format -
N Stevenson held up well in the opening group but the game was lost 2&1
McIntosh/Robertson had a 6 hole run in par to close out a 3&2 win.
Haggart's bunker play and putting were a feature in a 5&4 victory.
Ramsay led his pair to a well deserved half and our last pair lost 5&3, leaving the last game on the course to decide the match. Nethercote kept AGC in the game but were 1 down with 2 to play. Cometh the hour, cometh .... Price stepped up to win the final two holes for a 1 up win and the overall match result of 3 and a half to 2 and a half win for Auchterarder.

Match 9: 03/08/26 Ladybank Seniors v AGC Seniors
Although the weather threatened, we escaped with a couple of light showers. The hospitality as always was excellent, with our hosts Captained by David, did an excellent job in welcoming the teams. A very competitive match ensued with the overall result a win 6-2 in favour of Auchterarder. Many thanks to all associated with Ladybank. The overall winner on the day was the golf course that was presented and played exceptionally well.
Match 10: 10/08/26 Aberdour Seniors v AGC Seniors
On Monday 10th August we visited Aberdour Golf Club and were fortunate to have a bright sunny day to enjoy their hospitality and the very picturesque golf course.
The course was in excellent condition with two very intimidating par 3 holes to start our round off. One from the clubhouse down to the sea wall followed by an even longer one across the bay onto a raised green. The course layout offered some wonderful views of the Firth of Fourth which made the golf even more enjoyable.
There were 6 pairs per team playing 4-ball better ball format. The matches were very tightly contested, with the first two matches going our way and the next 3 going to Aberdour. Our final pairing of Mark Geddes and Matt Stevenson pulled off a hard fought win to make the final score 3-3.
There were also nearest the pin and longest drive prizes, all of which were won by AGC players.
The after match dinner was excellent with a good choice of food available and both teams agreed that it was a thoroughly enjoyable day played in wonderful conditions.

Match 11: 25/08/26 AGC Seniors v Balbirnie Seniors
The weather and general conditions were excellent. Balbirnie, captained by Derek Campbell provided a very competitive match with the overall result a win 5.5 - 0.5 in favour of Auchterarder. Many thanks to all associated with Balbirnie and we look forward to our matches in 2027.
The overall winner on the day was the golf course that was presented and played exceptionally well. Thank you to Shaun and his team. A fine meal was served up and enjoyed by all so thanks to Mandeep and his team. Thanks also to Ross and Robbie for looking after us all.
We had several prizes for nearest the pins won by Tom Sinclair, Bob Dick, John Price & Gavin Caird.

Match 12: 31/08/26 AGC Seniors v Downfield Seniors
We played Downfield Golf Club at Auchterarder for the first time on 31/8/26. Despite heavy rain the night before, the weather was sunny and general course conditions were excellent. Downfield, Captained by Keith Sinclair, provided a very competitive match with 5 matches being decided on the 17th or 18th greens.
Mentions in despatches include - Downfield's low handicapper Grant Rounding peppered the pins but had no answer to 25ft putts from our Paul Kirkwood; Chris Hilton also broke the deadlock with several long putts, and Steve Bonnar had 4 birdies; Steven McIntosh had an excellent back 9 to take his game to the last hole, for John Stirk to apply the coup de grace with an excellent par. The overall score of the match was 7-1 to Auchterarder .
Many thanks to all associated with Downfield and we look forward to our matches in 2027. Downfield were appreciative of the course, the meals ( especially the curry!) and our hospitality, and thanks go the Shaun, Mandeep, Ross and Gavin for their input to the day.
