Competition Rules – Gentlemen

 For avoidance of doubt:

  • All stroke play competition cards must be marked by an Auchterarder Golf Club member.
  • Stroke play competitions and matchplay ties may not be combined. (Rule 33-1).
  • Once the start sheet is printed off by the Professional on the morning of the competition (usually at 7.20am), no further amendments to booked start times may be made.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The championship will be played over 72 holes of stroke play. (Scratch and Handicap). In round four, the leading TWELVE players in the scratch event will play within the thirty minute section between 9.00 and 9.30am. In the event of a tie for the scratch championship there will be a play off over four holes of stroke play at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 15th holes and if necessary sudden death at the 16th, 17th and 18th holes. In the event of a tie for the handicap championship the best last round will take precedence and then the last 9 holes etc to decide the winner. If for any reason a round is cancelled then it will be played the next day and if necessary extended into the next weekend.

Bogey Competition

The above will be played over 18 holes and in the event of a tie the winner will be decided by the best last nine holes etc.

BENIERA CUP (FULL HANDICAP)/ TRIERS TROPHY (HANDICAPS 15 TO 28)

The above will be player over 36 holes of stroke play and in the event of a tie the best second round with take precedence and then the best last 9 holes etc to decide the winner.

QUALIFYING MEDALS

The above will be played over 18 holes of stroke play and in the event of a tie for the qualifying place or places it will be decided by the best last 9 holes etc. The defending champion will qualify by right.

MONTHLY MEDALS

The above will be played over 18 holes of stroke play and the winner from each section, Scratch/ Section 1 / Section 2/ Section 3/ and Section 4 will qualify. The end of season play off over 18 holes of stroke play for both Scratch and Handicap will, in the event of a tie, be decided by the best last 9 holes etc.

SPRING AND AUTUMN MEDALS

The above as individual medals will be played over 18 holes of stroke play. (Scratch and Handicap)

In the event of a tie the winner will be decided by the best last 9 holes etc. The winner of the combined Spring and Autumn Medals will be the best aggregate total over 36 holes. In the event of a tie the winners (Scratch and Handicap) will be decided where the best second round will take precedence and then the best last 9 holes etc.

ADULTS & LADS ROYAL MAIL TROPHY

The above will be played over 18 holes of stroke play and in the event of a tie the winners will be decided by the best last 9 holes etc (This is a junior competition and the rules will be displayed on the junior notice board)

GAVIN AITKEN MEMORIAL TROPHY

The above will be a Greensome championship (Nominated Partners) played over 18 holes. The handicap allowance will be 3/8 of the combined handicaps. In the event of a tie the best last 9 holes etc will decide the winners.

4 BALL BETTER BALL MEDALS:

The above will be played over 18 holes of stroke play (Nominated Partners) and the maximum handicap allowance will be 18. In the event of a tie the best last 9 holes etc will decide the winners,

Matches must be played by due date or both players or partnerships may be eliminated at the discretion of the match secretary. In the event of a tie after 18 holes, the match will be decided by sudden death.

GENTS OPEN / GENTS SENIOR OPEN

The above will be played over 18 holes of stroke play and in the event of a tie the best last 9 holes etc will decide the winner.

9-HOLE PAIRS STABLEFORD

Played over Holes 1-9. Nominated pairs - (male, female or mixed), playing individual Stableford. Pairs must be nominated before play and if competing in same group must not give advice or mark each other’s card. (Fourballs therefore allowed).

TEXAS SCRAMBLE

The above will be played over 18 holes of stroke play and in the event of a tie the best last 9 holes etc will decide the winner. (Nominated Teams).  Handicap allowance will be calculated in the professional shop.

OPEN MIXED FOURSOMES

The above competition will be played over 18 holes of stroke play and in the event of a tie the best last 9 holes etc will decide the winners. (Nominated Mixed Partners – Ladies Drive at 1st). The handicap allowance will be ½ the combined total.

The above championships will run under the rules of The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and any local rule pertaining on the day. In the event of a dispute the decision of the committee shall be final.

SUMMER LEAGUE

All Gentlemen may enter the Summer League including those with lapsed CONGU handicaps.

The Summer League can be played any day on which there is no club competition. The Leagues consist of three sections:

  • Section 1 – Handicap up to 9
  • Section 2 – Handicap 10 - 15
  • Section 3 – Handicap 16 – 28 

Members will remain in the section they are placed on joining the league, regardless of subsequent handicap adjustments. All play is from the yellow tees.

Joining Fee:     £5.00 (members can join any week)

Weekly Entry:  £2.00 (sweep & Magic 2’s)

All fees are paid at the Pro Shop.

Players will have a Summer League Handicap and this will be adjusted in line with CONGU rules but kept separate from your actual CONGU handicap. The competition will be run on the Club 2000 Computer system. All players competing should enter their scores directly into the computer on completion of their round and cards placed into the Summer League box. (For 2019 the computer will be available every day of the week for score entry). All cards must be marked by an existing member of the Club who possesses a current handicap.

Although Summer League Rounds are not classed as QUALIFYING for CONGU Handicap purposes, Clause 19 will be applied (General Play).

Prizes will be awarded on a sectional basis at the end of the League Season based on Accumulated Points and Best Gross Eclectic.

Points Competition:

Points will be allocated to the best 6 net scores in each section on the basis 6 points for 1st position, 5 for 2nd etc. with 1 point allocated to 6th place. Prize money will be available each week and distributed by the Pro Shop. The lowest net score each week will qualify for the J. D. Findlay Rosebowl Play-off.

Eclectic Competition:

The eclectic competition will be run using the sum of the best 18 hole gross eclectic score for the course.

The League will be run by D D Smith, Jake Riddell and Gavin Baxter. All decisions made by this committee are final.

TAYPLAY LEAGUE

The Tayplay League runs from June to September. Points are awarded for the top ten handicap scores from selected competitions.

Points will be awarded as follows: 1st: 30pts; 2nd: 25pts; 3rd: 20pts; 4th: 18pts; 5th: 16pts; 6th: 14pts; 7th: 12pts; 8th: 10pts; 9th: 8pts; 10th: 6pts.

This is a free to enter competition and all competitors will be automatically entered. Our thanks go to the sponsors of this league, Tayplay and Leroy Wilson.

WINTER LEAGUES

The League’s will commence in October, and continue every Sunday until the end of March. The Super Six Winter League will commence on the first Monday after the opening Sunday Winter League. Competitors may play in either or both Winter Leagues. The Winter League Finale will take place on the first Sunday after completion of the Leagues.

The Leagues consist of three sections:

  • Section 1 – Handicap up to 9
  • Section 2 – Handicap 10 - 15
  • Section 3 – Handicap 16 – 28

Members will remain in the section they are placed on joining the leagues, regardless of subsequent handicap adjustments. All play is from the tees of the day.

Weekly Entry:  £2.00 (sweep & Magic 2’s)

All fees are paid at the Pro Shop.

Prizes will be awarded on a sectional basis at the end of the League Season based on Accumulated Points and Best Gross Eclectic.

All players competing on the day should enter their scores directly into the computer on completion of their round and cards placed into the card box. It is the players’ responsibility to ensure that all cards are properly completed and scores entered into the computer when available. D D Smith, Jake Riddell and Gavin Baxter will administer all competitions and handicaps.
